Before the Storm
When a hurricane or tropical storm is forecast, pet waste cleanup should be part of your preparation checklist.
- Deep clean the entire yard 48+ hours before expected landfall
- Secure waste bins to prevent them from becoming projectiles
- Empty all outdoor bins
- Stock indoor waste supplies in case outdoor access is restricted
- Fill sandbags away from waste areas
During the Storm
During the storm, your dog may need to relieve themselves indoors. Prepare pee pads, indoor waste bags, and enzyme cleaner in advance.
Warning
Never let your dog outside during a storm surge or flooding event. Contaminated floodwater is a severe health hazard.
After the Storm
- Assume the entire yard is contaminated after any flooding
- Do not let dogs or children in the yard until cleanup is complete
- Remove all debris before waste cleanup
- Apply lime treatment to the entire yard surface
- Have your well tested if you are on a private water supply
