Start Right from Day One
Moving into a new construction home with a dog gives you a unique opportunity to design your yard for effective waste management from the start. New sod and fresh landscaping are especially vulnerable to waste damage.
Designing for Your Dog
- Designated potty area: Install a gravel or decomposed granite zone specifically for your dog
- Drainage planning: Ensure the potty area has proper drainage away from patios and play areas
- Waste station: Mount a bag dispenser and sealed bin near the back door
- Hose bib placement: Request a spigot near the dog area for easy rinsing
- Grass selection: Choose urine-resistant grass varieties like fescue or Bermuda
Protecting New Sod
New sod is especially vulnerable to waste damage during the first 90 days while roots establish. A single week of unattended waste can permanently kill patches that cost $0.90 per square foot to replace.
Warning
Remove waste from new sod within hours, not days. The roots have not yet established deep enough to recover from nitrogen burn.
Professional Service During Establishment
The first three months after sod installation are critical. Clean Paws weekly service during this period protects your landscaping investment and gives your new lawn the best chance to establish strong, healthy roots.
