The Great Thaw Reveal
Spring thaw is every dog owner's reckoning. Months of waste hidden under snow, frozen into the ground, and concentrated by snowmelt appear all at once. The average dog produces 70+ pounds of waste over winter.

Phase 1: Surface Removal
- Start as soon as ground is soft enough to lift deposits
- Work in sections — do not try the whole yard at once
- Use a flat-blade shovel for frozen or embedded deposits
- Bag everything — do not rake waste into mulch or garden beds
Phase 2: Soil Treatment
- Apply enzyme-based outdoor cleaner to all previous waste spots
- Spread agricultural lime on acidified areas to raise pH
- Water treated areas to work solutions into soil
- Wait 7-10 days before reseeding
Tip
Schedule a Clean Paws spring deep clean before your first mow. Professional cleanup catches deposits you cannot see in tall matted grass.
Phase 3: Restoration
Once waste is removed and soil is treated, overseed bare patches with a shade-tolerant grass mix. Apply a light starter fertilizer and keep the area moist for 2-3 weeks.
